Quote of the day.
“The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each other’s life.” – Richard Bach
Quote of the day.
“In dwelling, live close to the ground. In thinking, keep to the simple. In conflict, be fair and generous. In governing, don’t try to control. In work, do what you enjoy. In family life, be completely present.” – Lao Tzu
Turn off your phone, and tune into your life.
Social media and texting have become central to our daily lives. Many feel the need to check-in when they arrive somewhere, post where they’re having dinner, and much, much more.
I’m not bashing it in anyway and I’ve done the same over the years, navigating the social channels and learning about them for work, not personal, at the start. Had it not been for that, I’d still have my BlackBerry and had remained the Facebook anti-Christ. But I have to say, I love many aspects of these communication vehicles. It’s reconnected me with family and friends, introduced me to people with like interests around the globe, and serves in promoting a lot of good content – when we weed through it. On the flip side, it can also drain our bank accounts when our willpower is low, targeting us through ads that make us want what we never even knew existed. Apple pay, PayPal, Shop – click, it’s mine!
And let’s not discount how valuable social media – as well as texting, FaceTime, and the good old fashioned telephone call – was during the COVID years. It was instrumental in keeping us all connected, professionally and personally.

Quote of the day.
“Real value isn’t in what you own, drive, wear or live. The greater value is found in love and life, health and strength, friends and family!” – T. D. Jakes

After a dinner break with family this evening, I had to get back to work. The reality is I spend 12-14 hours each day working and that is not a complaint – it is a choice and something I love to do. I’m sure to schedule breaks for a stretch, some fetch time with my fur-baby and the such, but tonight I was reminded of something.
Even after the dinner break. Even after quality time with my fur-baby and undivided attention from my parents and I, it just wasn’t enough for her.
Now granted, my little fur-wonder is spoiled in all upper case letters – SPOILED. I used to say loved, but she is spoiled. I admit it and take full responsibility. We all do, everyone in my family. But can we help it?! NO!
I do think about what a long day it is for her, sleeping with short play breaks, while she stays by my side – loyally. Continue reading “What our loved ones really want.”
Quote of the day.
“That’s what people do who love you. They put their arms around you and love you when you’re not so lovable.” – Deb Caletti
Pets are family, too.
I know there are people that think of pets as, well, pets.
We hear it often. “It’s only a dog.” “Cats don’t require attention.”
Maybe they purchased one. Maybe they rescued one. Maybe they inherited one. Continue reading “Pets are family, too.”
Thanksgiving eve.
As I wrap up preparations for tomorrow’s – well, now today’s given the hour – Thanksgiving celebration, I am flooded with wonderful memories from my childhood.
My grandmother would rise at 3AM to put the turkey in the oven. I don’t think I should say ‘rise’, because I’m not sure she ever slept. I’d inherited her ability to get an hour or two of sleep and function at full capacity, but sadly outgrew it.
