A number of my writings are on the serious and emotional side, the caustic humor of my past subdued – or non-existent. I’m working on that.
But it’s Friday, and I have to share my rewarding evening with you!
Introducing Dainty Dog Delicacies – a canine passion turned hobby, inspired by Miss Vivienne Yorkshire, that seems to be taking off at record speed.
Disclaimer: No – I don’t do cats (yet).
As I slaved away in the kitchen fulfilling the first batches, I said never again.
My arthritic hands ached. A slight sweat erupted on my forehead – absolutely disgraceful for a former fitness instructor to admit! Yet I forged on.
My dough was temperamental, which led to a Google search on how to salvage it. My upper body ached and once again I proclaimed: This is it! I’m done! I didn’t care whose dogs liked the homemade treats. I was quitting, before I officially began.
Then all at once, the hard part was behind me. I was shaping the dough that was ‘oh so fickle to work with’, and right in front of my eyes, shapes took form: paws, bones, dogs and squirrels. In that moment, I felt elated. It was a sense of achievement, a victory of sorts.
Yet I was exhausted and knew a taste test with my pooch would be a waste – even if she did supervise the entire process from start to finish, approving via the sniff test.
Never had I met a dog who didn’t want to eat – anything, and everything. But that’s my Viv!
In the morning, I proclaim ‘ breakfast’ and if she’s not ready, she tucks her tail and rushes under my desk. It’s baffling.
But tonight – when I told her she could have the treats that didn’t quite ‘shape up’, the outcome was pleasing. She gobbled up each piece – then licked her chops, her eyes asking for more. What a testimonial!
Is there a moral to the story? Always!
No matter where you are in your life or what you’re going through, make the time to discover something that motivates you. Find something that keeps you up at night – and propels you out of bed in the morning!
More to come – but that’s it for tonight.
