If there’s one thing I’ve learned in life, no matter what you’re enduring, pain and angst can be eased by taking the focus off yourself.
Recently I’ve communicated with many who are self-absorbed, dwelling on any aspect of their health and well-being – blood sugar levels, blood pressure fluctuations, sleep quality, aches and pains, social media addiction, and more. If it’s not that it’s work issues, divorce pains, and financial hardships.
Brutal truth – this is life. There are often more downs than ups, more hardships than wins. Some we have control over and most we don’t. Pain when we wake lets us know we’re alive. Anxiety and panic attacks are a signal we need help. Current situations based on past decisions are manageable – we simply need to focus objectively and build a solutions plan.
If when reading this post you see yourself, pause. There are many who would welcome your problems because … they’re homeless, drug addicted, jobless, alcoholics, or any number of issues that prevent them from getting ahead.
If you’re reading this feeling sorry for your lack of sleep, aching joints, or failed social media bonds, reconsider.
I’m not asking you to minimize your pain or angst, simply reevaluate based on a realistic scale of needs.
I hurt. I ache. My heart is heavy for multiple reasons. I juggle family and work responsibilities. I manage chronic health issues. I miss countless family and friends who passed way too early. I suffer – as does everyone on this earth. But I don’t let it define me. Nor do I allow it to shut out my family and friends – heck, I’d ask one to actually reach out and care about me. Yet am I bitter? No!
Because there are those one or two who check-in, and show-up. Thank you. You are my salvation, my friends, who no matter how many words I craft, none would be enough to thank you. In my darkest hours, you were, and are, there. You know who you are.
Yet I ask of so many – please differentiate between a self pity party and a self evaluation then ask how you can help yourself, by helping others.
When you first read, your response may be nasty. Read again. ❤️
