I. Am. Done. Not only one full sentence, but three. As I half-tuned in to television commercials, I then found myself scratching my head.
All-natural sleep aids. GLP-1 weight loss drugs. Eczema injections. Red and green gummies to ensure vegetable consumption.
Wellness is a business. The wellness industry is capitalizing on today’s human beings wanting to feel fabulous. We want to look, feel, and believe we’re fabulous. Perfect sleep. Perfect nutrition. Perfect fitness. All about us. We can’t live fully or care for others until we are functioning at our highest. Ha!
BS.
Yes, we should aim to eat well, and move our bodies. We should make an effort to eat non-processed foods and moderate our food intake. And maybe we should tap into the generations past – laugh, dance, and work hard. Don’t long for a house with a three car garage. Don’t long for multiple bathrooms or ample bedrooms. Make the best with what you have and forget about the Jones’s.
Who are the Jones’s?!
Our grandmother’s wore housecoats – didn’t get Botox. Dad’s laid down the law, and made sure kids respected their mothers – didn’t shop for men’s face cream. Kids shared one bathroom – even if there were twelve in the family. I will never forget my father recalling he was the last to get in the bath at the time, because he was the dirtiest. They didn’t have much, yet they had everything.
I do recall Geritol and Rose Milk. And let’s not forget Porcelana. Even Lawrence Welk was fueled by the beauty and wellness industry. Paid ads.
Has anyone considered simply eating non-processed foods, walking, and taking a multi-vitamin? Have you considered the consistency of soap, water, and moisturizer? Do we need retinol? Has anyone considered that hard work and movement will lead to sleep? Motivation will result in waking up early no matter what the circumstances. Often caring about the greater good can and will inspire us to be the best we can be with the right mindset.
I’m not buying anymore supplements – aside from my multivitamin. I’m not buying anymore sleep drinks, or magic morning potions.
I am simply going to eat nutritiously, move my body, work hard, love my people, and let life flow as it will.
Who else is fed up with the commercialization of wellness?
