In overhearing news segments from various channels, I scratched my head. What I listened to was a lot of angry people, people who want to incite others in an effort to ensure those people are as angry as they are. We hear small audio clips of some, not all, information, then go off to spread that message – and it spreads like a cancer, one that is terminal for us all.
This is not a political post. This is not a party post. I am an independent who votes on the bills that impact our day to day.
People believe when they kick and scream, they will win. And sometimes they do. It is sad that quiet strength and integrity that works behind the scenes to make a difference aren’t revered or respected. That so many believe we have to fight to get our way – not apply our intelligence, critical thought process, or communication skills to educate and influence.
When I tune in closely to what’s going on in our society, I ask what happened to us. It’s as if we are animals in the wild, void of logic and rationale. Kill or be killed, hunting madly while preying on anyone vulnerable to intimidation and bullying. It’s as if we’ve lost sight of each other and civility, respect, and compassion have been completely forgotten. And the foul language – swearing isn’t offensive to me, yet it is surprising that so many highly educated and degreed individuals choose that path vs. a more eloquent vocabulary.
Abolish. Cancel. Erase.
We have become a society that disposes. Gets rid of many things without a second thought, people included. We don’t even think to fix things. Not everything broken needs to be discarded. When something is not working, let’s find the root of the issue then repair it from there. When our past has failed us, let’s learn from it and make strides to eradicate such future ignorance and hateful behavior so history doesn’t repeat itself. When people say things we disagree with, let’s not cancel them or unfriend them, let’s either ignore it or engage them in conversation – if it falls within the parameters of the serenity prayer: accept the things you cannot change, change the things you can, and have the wisdom to know the difference.
I ask, what happened to us?
