Today we have a delicate submission to which I want to respond with compassion and empathy that is void of judgment. For any of us who have been in long-term relationships, we can certainly understand the many seasons of the heart. No matter how blissful it can be, there are challenges, roadblocks and obstacles. Some we can face, confront and overcome while others, we may not be able to. The latter is usually because of differences in core values, morals and beliefs or the sad realization that the two of you do not share the same long term vision as a couple. Some wants and needs can be met through compromise while some cannot and the decision must be made to part ways.

As we close out August and welcome September, I am reminded of how much I cherish this occurrence that happens twelve times each year. It brings with it reflection upon what’s being left behind and anticipation for what lies ahead – an opportunity to think about what we could have done differently and the motivation to try again in the days ahead.

It’s been selected and published!

Thank you to all who read this piece with an open mind, thoughtfully commented (or vehemently disagreed) and shared it to their pages.

I make every effort to stay out of political battles and propaganda promotions, but my passion on this one far outweighed my desire to appear neutral.

Writing is a wonderful yet frightening endeavor because you never know how your thoughts will be interpreted or perceived. But that is also where the beauty of it begins – in giving us the opportunity to partake in a respectful exchange of diverse opinions while having the maturity to still like each other at the end of the debate.

It’s so hard to say goodbye to yesterday.

Gone, but never forgotten.

When people say it’s just a house, I wonder about their sense of feeling and attachment.

And maybe, in this moment, I envy their perspective.

Today, my childhood home was demolished. Not only my childhood home, but five generations of babies, toddlers, adolescents, teenagers, adults and autumn years. The history was so rich with life and love, heartaches and pain.
